The area was incorporated in the late 1800 and became the home of dairy farmers, cheese makers, loggers and clammers, who supplied shells to two button factories in the area .Fremont is a small, charming village of just over 700 residents, although thousands flock here every year in May to experience what the locals call “May Madness”. This phenomenon makes Fremont well known as “The White Bass Capital of the World” during the spring spawn. It is not uncommon for fishermen to take home over 2000 fish during a single week of fishing.
The Village boasts many attractions for vacationers. Lodging accommodations include hotel/motel rooms, housekeeping cottages, resorts, and campgrounds.
